Plus, we watched a video that outlined the Louisiana Purchase, which predated Lewis and Clark's adventures.
Tuesday, Jan. 31-Students covered the War of 1812 and its connection to our national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner." Included is a video on Ft. McHenry, the fort that inspired the poem-turned-song (look for it at 15:36). Also attached is the warm-up paper for this week, which includes summarizing this anthem and other warm-ups due by Thursday, Feb. 2.

Wednesday, Feb. 1-We covered the Trail of Tears. Attached are notes on the Trail of Tears for any students who were not in school that day. Additionally, here's the video we watched courtesy of PBS.

Thursday, Feb. 2/Friday, Feb. 3-We continued our lessons with these cartoons! They covered the Mexican-American War and Northwest Ordinance! We also caught up on some activities due to multiple school-related events!

Tuesday, Feb. 7-Students did some searching of preserved Underground Railroad using this National Park Service link. Try it for yourself!
Wednesday, Feb. 8-We watched "America: Story of Us" in class on Antebellum slavery and abolitionists. I also handed out the Westward Expansion-Antebellum Slavery test study guides as the test is early next week! Here is a copy attached.

Thursday, Feb. 9-Students learned about abolitionists and different examples of them. Plus, we watched a video on a runaway slave in North Carolina named Harriet Jacobs. Her story is amazing! Attached are the notes and the video.

Friday, Feb. 10-We wrapped up the unit with an 'Slavery-Politics' article and we finished the guided notes. In addition, we plan to watch the following video that highlights all the clashing over slavery that led to civil war.
